YouTube will not allow creators to make money until they reach 10,000 views

Image
Five years ago, YouTube opened their partner program to everyone. This was a really big deal: it meant anyone could sign up for the service, start uploading videos, and immediately begin making money. This model helped YouTube grow into the web’s biggest video platform, but it has also led to some problems. People were creating accounts that uploaded content owned by other people, sometimes big record labels or movie studios, sometimes other popular YouTube creators. In an effort to combat these bad actors, YouTube has announced a change to its partner program today. From now on, creators won’t be able to turn on monetization until they hit 10,000 lifetime views on their channel. YouTube believes that this threshold will give them a chance to gather enough information on a channel to know if it’s legit. And it won’t be so high as to discourage new independent creators from signing up for the service. “In a few weeks, we’ll also be adding a review process for ...

YouTube Go beta is now officially available in India

Image
When YouTube Go was announced last September, the focus was on India and users were asked to sign up to be notified. But then last month YouTube Go made it onto the Play Store unofficially and users around the world were able to download it from APK Mirror and try it out. Some could register their phone numbers and use it fully with the ability to download videos, others couldn't and were limited to streaming. But still, Go wasn't yet officially announced. Now it is, well at least in beta, and the first official country Go is available in is India. Users can download it if they want to consume content on YouTube in a data-conscious way. That includes the ability to preview videos before watching or downloading them to make sure they're worth your bandwidth as well as the option to choose the resolution when streaming or downloading a video to limit how much data it'll consume. YouTube Go also has popular videos in your area on the app's mai...

Location sharing is live in Google Maps for everyone

Image
Download : Google Maps (Play Store) Google pulled the location sharing features from Google+ recently, which was annoying because the corresponding feature in Maps was not actually available yet. Well, it turns out Google was only a little behind schedule. Location sharing in Maps appears to be rolling out wide right now. Location sharing is accessible from the navigation drawer—it's currently marked with a "New" badge. When you fire it up, you can choose to share your location with anyone you choose for any length of time. You can even leave location sharing on indefinitely. You need to do this even if you had location sharing enabled via the old Google+ method. Locations can be shared via links as well. Send the link to anyone, and they'll be able to locate you for the amount of time you choose. The link is managed on your end, so it can be disabled whenever you want. When someone shares their location with you, they appear in the bar ...

iOS 10.3, macOS 10.12.4, watchOS 3.2, tvOS 10.2 Updates Now Available

Image
Apple has released iOS 10.3, macOS 10.12.4 Sierra, tvOS 10.2, and watchOS 3.2 updates to the general public, after running them in beta for a while. These updates bring bug fixes and improvements across entire Apple's product lineup, the big highlight being the ability for Siri to show live scores from Indian Premier League (IPL) and International Cricket Council (ICC) cricket matches, apart from answering other queries. iOS 10.3 First up, iOS 10.3 brings along the 'Find My AirPods' feature - a much needed addition given the nature of the tiny accessory. This feature is found in the Find My iPhone app, and it means that you can search for the AirPods from the app, as long as they are within Bluetooth range of any of your iOS devices signed into iCloud. Because of the limited range, it isn't as efficient as Find My iPhone, but it's still handy if you lose your AirPods somewhere in your house. Within the app, you can look for the pair, or just one e...

Check out the Leaked specs of Xiaomi Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus

Image
In addition to the Galaxy S8 and S8+, two other flagship devices are coming soon — Xiaomi is expected to take the wraps off the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus next month. If you want to know more about them, you’re in luck. The specifications of both devices have recently leaked. What’s most interesting is that it looks like the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Plus will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset. This contradicts previous rumors claiming that they will feature the slightly older Snapdragon 821 processor, as Xiaomi just can’t get its hands on Qualcomm’s latest chipset because of supply shortages. The smaller of the two devices, the Mi 6, will sport a 5.15-inch display with Full HD resolution. The device will be available in a few different variants as it will come with 4 and 6 GB of RAM as well as 32, 64, and 128 GB of storage. You’ll find a 19 MP camera on the back and a selfie snapper with an 8 MP sensor on the front. Other features worth mentioning are a 3,200 mA...

Four year old boy in London uses Siri to save his mother’s life

Image
Roman, a four year old boy who lives in Croydon, south London saw his mother in a deathly situation. Her eyes were closing and she appeared to be not breathing. The boy unlocked his mother’s iPhone by pressing her finger on the home button, and then used Siri to call emergency services. Paramedics and police rushed to the location, and were able to provide life saving first aid to his mother. The incident was reported by the BBC . The home was occupied by Roman, his twin brother, and a younger brother. The police pointed out that the incident highlighted the need to teach children how to use technology to contact emergency services, and how to call the police when a situation arises where urgent assistance is needed. Siri, the voice assistant in the Apple iPhone, was used by the boy to dial 999, which is the official emergency number across the United Kingdom. This is not the first time that Siri has been used to save a life. In June 2016, a one year old tod...

Super Mario Run Now Available on Android; iOS Version Gets an Update

Image
Super Mario Run – the short Italian plumber’s first foray onto smartphones – is now available on Android in some parts of the world, a bit earlier than its expected release time. It retains the existing play model devised by Nintendo – you get a trial of all three modes, in World Tour, Toad Rally, and Kingdom Builder, before having to pony up a one-time fee of Rs. 800 / $9.99 to unlock everything else. The game had first arrived on iOS late last year, and was downloaded 40 million times in the first four days after launch, and hit about 78 million by the end of January. But Super Mario Run was having trouble converting those downloads into paid customers – by Nintendo’s estimates, only 5 percent had done so. Nintendo seems to following a gradual rollout strategy for the game’s Android launch. If it still says ‘pre-register’ on the Google Play Store where you live (and you’re done waiting), you can always download and sideload it from APK Mirror , which has been kind e...

Pay ₹50L or we'll wipe 20 crore Apple devices' data: Hackers

Image
Apple blackmailed by hackers over stolen photos and iPhone credentials A group of hackers called 'Turkish Crime Family' has reportedly threatened to delete data of 20 crore Apple devices if their demands aren't met. The group has demanded ₹50 lakh in Bitcoin or ₹65 lakh-worth iTunes gift cards from Apple. The hackers reportedly sent Apple a video of them logging into an elderly woman's account and accessing her iCloud data. A mischievous band of hackers is reportedly trying to shake down Apple over a large trove of stolen iPhone credentials, including iCloud and other Apple email accounts. The attackers – who identified themselves as ‘Turkish Crime Family’ – are seeking to receive $75,000 in the popular cryptocurrency Bitcoin or the less known alternative, Ethereum. They will, however, also settle for $100,000 worth of iTunes gift cards, Motherboard reports.

The iPhones will have an aluminium finish and will be available in 128 GB and 256 GB options from March 24. Apple has previously released special-edition phone cases and watchbands to support AIDS charity. Apple announces red iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus In the midst of launching a new   video-editing app   for the iPhone and iPad, Apple has also just snuck out a new special-edition red iPhone 7, with barely any fanfare. (Although rumors that   something was afoot   began earlier today when Apple's online store went down.) The red aluminum iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will be launching globally, adding some welcome color to the black and plainer metallic shades we've had until now. It's certainly not the first red-hued device from Apple (that honor goes to its red iPod), as the company has supported AIDS c...

iPhone 8 Release Date, Price, Specs, Features, Rumors

Image
A new report from TrendForce has reiterated the idea that Apple will release three separate modules in its iPhone range in 2017. One of the devices will be branded the iPhone 8, with the other two possibly attracting the iPhone 7S moniker. Thus, we will likely see an iPhone 8 released alongside iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus devices. Sales Positive TrendForce also suggested that iPhone sales will pick up significantly in 2017, and that the calendar year could be something of a landmark one for the Californian corporation. Apple hasn’t exactly struggled over the last 18 months, but its sales have slowed down slightly as the smartphone niche begins to recede somewhat. It has been suggested by numerous publications that we may already have reached ‘peak smartphone’, and the big players in this niche must now demonstrate that they can reinvigorate the public imagination. But the opinion of TrendForce has been backed up by a major investment bank Morgan Stanley. K...

Jio customers to remain loyal even with paid services, says Wall Street report

Image
As Jio will make its services paid from April 1, 2017, it was thought that many customers may stop subscribing to it, but a research conducted by brokerage firm Bernstein showed opposite trend. “We expected many people would appreciate the ‘free’ Jio offer but be critical regarding voice quality – with many likely to move back to their primary operator once they were forced to pay. What we see is the opposite,” the report stated. Bernstein is a Wall Street research and brokerage firm. “Jio scores highest overall on customer loyalty and outscores the incumbents on customer service, convenience, data coverage, data speeds, and handset choice. They also outscored Vodafone and Idea in voice quality and voice coverage,” it added. The report also stated that most of the 2G/3G users in the sample test expect to upgrade to 4G within the next year, and 80 per cent say they will consider Jio when they do. The survey also gave some insight on the critical question of what perc...

The Snapchatification of everything has resulted in backlash for WhatsApp, prompting it to revive its text Status option while keeping its image-based replacement. The move shows how social apps must quickly react to feedback if they make a false step in modernizing to adapt to visual communication. In mid-February, WhatsApp removed the feature that let you set an away message, and then gave the Status name to a Snapchat Stories clone...
