YouTube will not allow creators to make money until they reach 10,000 views

Image
Five years ago, YouTube opened their partner program to everyone. This was a really big deal: it meant anyone could sign up for the service, start uploading videos, and immediately begin making money. This model helped YouTube grow into the web’s biggest video platform, but it has also led to some problems. People were creating accounts that uploaded content owned by other people, sometimes big record labels or movie studios, sometimes other popular YouTube creators. From now on, creators won’t be able to turn on monetization until they hit 10,000 lifetime views on their channel. YouTube believes that this threshold will give them a chance to gather enough information on a channel to know if it’s legit. That includes the ability to preview videos before watching or downloading them to make sure they're worth your bandwidth as well as the option to choose the resolution when streaming or downloading a video to limit how much data it'll consume. YouTube Go also has popular videos in your area on the app's mai...

Location sharing is live in Google Maps for everyone

Image
Download : Google Maps (Play Store) Google pulled the location sharing features from Google+ recently, which was annoying because the corresponding feature in Maps was not actually available yet. Well, it turns out Google was only a little behind schedule. Location sharing in Maps appears to be rolling out wide right now. Location sharing is accessible from the navigation drawer—it's currently marked with a "New" badge. When you fire it up, you can choose to share your location with anyone you choose for any length of time. You can even leave location sharing on indefinitely. You need to do this even if you had location sharing enabled via the old Google+ method. Locations can be shared via links as well. Send the link to anyone, and they'll be able to locate you for the amount of time you choose. The link is managed on your end, so it can be disabled whenever you want. When someone shares their location with you, they appear in the bar ...
